Billions of Earths
European astronomers have announced findings that suggest the number of Earth-like planets in the Milky Way may be in the billions.
The high accuracy radial velocity planet searcher (Harps) team have said that around 40% of red dwarf stars have ‘super-Earths’ in the habitable region (i.e. planets which are between 1-10 times the size of the Earth, and conveniently happen to be where the temperature is cool enough to support liquid water).
As there are over 160 billion red dwarfs in the galaxy, this means that there are many planets that could potentially support life.
Such a large number is considerably greater than what was previously estimated. These findings will certainly make us re-evaluate the Fermi paradox: the question that if life-compatible planets are so abundant why do we not see any evidence of extra-terrestrial intelligence?

Lights are programmed to flood the underside and/or walls of the buildings in response to variations in the natural light visible through the aperture cut into the roof. As the sky transitions from light to dark the interior lights generate a range of hues in the skyspace.

A puppy named after one of the world’s biggest pop stars could set the world’s record for tiniest dog.

Animal rescuers in Northern California say the female Dachshund mix, named Beyonce, was so small at birth that she could fit into a spoon. At two weeks, she’s about the size of a business card.

The Grace Foundation, based in El Dorado County, says animal control picked up Beyonce’s pregnant mother, and she gave birth to a litter of five on March 8.

Beyonce was the last one delivered, and was born without a heartbeat. Veterinarians managed to revive her through chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

The foundation says she’ll be ready for adoption in about two weeks.

Meanwhile, it has submitted an application to Guinness World Records for world’s smallest dog.
